I had a disappointing day last week. Me and Ain got to be sterile assistants to this subtotal tyroidectomy surgery. Ten minutes into the surgery I asked permission to go to the bathroom. I felt like throwing up. How can I not? You guys were practically sembelih ing this woman (which I find cool) but I'm like inches away and err....I just feel like nak muntah laah. I din't vomit, I went to the changing room and calmed down for a bit.

When I came in, the surgeon wouldn't let me scrub back in cause he said I wasted a sterile robe. T_____T. So I just stood by and watched. At the end of the surgery Ain got to do two closing stitches. TWO FREAKING STITCHES! Aaaaaa! Envy!!!!

Little sister's first phone.

When she scored 5A's in UPSR last time, she kept on whining about wanting a mobile phone to AJ. HAHAHA asking for a phone when you just got into high school is like a big joke in our family. Me and Afif got our first phone in form 4 whilst Zarif got his after finishing high school (cause he thinks having a phone in school is distracting etc etc. Nerd.)

Luckily my sister's got really kind and caring older sister and brothers.

I looked around and saw this phone - my sis wanted one with colour screen and a camera. AMBOI. This one costs Rm190 so we told her; you give your tabung money Rm100 and the three of us is gonna topup Rm30 each for you.

Our terms and condition;

1. You must never bring the phone to your boarding school - only use it when you're home for holidays.

2. No boyfriend until high school ends.

Terms I've picked up

There's a lot of weird terms at the hospital. For instance when someone says "Wei ada pasbar!" it means a new patient was admitted. You see, pasbar is short for pasien baru. -____- I know right.

Anyways, from my experience of working at the hospital there's two main terms in describing us - med students and also the doctors ; pemanggil and pemulang.

Pemanggil

Term used to describe a certain med student/doctor of whom whenever they're the person oncall/on night shift/on day shift soooooo many pasbar would come. I've worked under a pemanggil doctor and I swear every time shift with her banyak gila orang baru admitted I don't know from which lubang they come from. Tsk. And once someone gets the title its like you're stuck with it for life. People would look at the jadual jaga and go crap, malam ni doctor pemanggil jaga. LOL.

Pemulang

Pemulang is divided into two - a regular pemulang and a pemulang ke rahmatullah (p.k.r). Whenever they're oncall, there's hardly any new patient and furthermore, the existing ones gets discharged one by one. For p.k.r well from the name you could just guess. Whenever a p.k.r is on duty, people kept on dying. When I was in Neurology, there's so many people in the ward with stroke and under a coma. But when these p.k.r comes to their shift suddenly the coma people dies.

Personally, I love working with the pemulang species. Duh.

Surgical ER

What did we do in the surgical ER for a week?

Observe operations.

Meet babies with hydrocephalus.

If a patient needs an emergency cranioctomy we shave their heads.

Treat burn victim's wounds.

Eat.

Send patients to radiology to get their CT Scans.

Sew people up.

Deal with blood.

One whole week of imprisonment in the surgical ER is coming to an end. Aaaaaah. *lega*

Hello people!

Its 4.08am GMT8 so what are you guys up to? Sleep? Awesome. Me? I'm in the Surgical ER, not sleeping. Pffft.

Lucky there's nothing much going on at the moment hence hello blog!

I just started my Surgery rotation...or is it surgical rotations? Hmm we call it Bedah around here. The first week of Bedah is the perpetual week in the surgical er. Like literally having to be here 24 hours a day for 7 straight days starting Sunday 7am.

Its only been my 46th hour and man I feel like I've been trapped here for a week. Why la people tak build hospital in shopping malls?!

We have to wear that blue scrubs 24/7, so konon feeling Greys Anatomy la ni.

Remember in the first season Bailey said to them 'Your 48 hour shift starts now' and I'm thinking damn here its like 'Your a million hour shift starts now and we're not paying you any money for your free labour hahaha!'

Anyways, I did my first ever cruelty to mankind yesterday when I had the chance to suture this guy's hand. Like sow him up whilst he's still hidup-hidup. Tsk. I've always thought the human way to do it was to pengsankan the victims before you know, treating them like homework ERT kemahiran hidup. Any of you kena jahit a seluar from scratch like my Bainun-mates last time?

I was assisting this doctor whilst he sutured this guy's face. He's got 4 deep lacerations cause someone broke a glass bottle and hit him with it..for no reason - he said. So many psychos out there huh.

So he's got this cut on his hand and the doctor must think 'Ermm luka bodoh kat tangan ni aku nak kasi budak2 ni la buat' haha cause me and Rosa were like nakkk! Nak jahit nakkk! *stim*

Such nerds.

We did three stitches each!

The doctor looked at our masterpiece and like "Eh 4 stitches also enough la but nevermind *looks at clock* hm a whole half hour for 6 stitches ha ha ha."

You can find people selling plenty of stuffs on the roadside in this place - cartons of eggs, fruits and rabbits.

We stopped by to have a look one night before Efa left and she was going all Ooooh-I've-ALWAYS-wanted-a-rabbit. So I bought one for her. Since it was a male, we named him Hamdan.

I told Efa, Shahnaz told me that she had bought these rabbits for a million times and they all ended up dead, one after another. Some of my other friends had the same fate with these rabbits. Which was why I always stop myself from getting one. But I know two people who had them and they didn't die but instead turned into big adult rabbits.

So, let's try.

That is Hamdan sleeping in the middle of my room, of all places. Tsk.

And I just found him dead this morning. Time to delete all of Hamdan's pictures from my phone. T__T The end.

Seven days/six nights with a roommate

Honestly, there's nothing to see in Makassar. Its just some tanah tandus haha. No mesmerizing sceneries from cliffs/beaches like in Bali, no fascinating city with modern malls filled with pretty pan-asian looking citizens like in Jakarta, no super cheap branded clothes from factory outlets or mesmerizing ex-volcano mountain of some sort like in Bandung.

Here, there's nothing in this place, zilch.

Except, me! You can see me!

So one of my bestfriends came to town to see me...and whatever else she could find. Efa stayed here for 6 days and I tried my best to make her trip worthwhile cause that's what Nabi Muhammad would do.

We went to the malls, the place to shop for laced kebaya, the spa, had manicures *looks at my shiny nails* went out to eat, went to the seaside and I brought her for a spin around my Uni. Efa behaved so nicely, whatever I ask her - do you wana go here first or there? You wana eat this or that? - she'll answer; Aku okay jer. She says 'Aku okay jer' for like 50 times a day. Haha.

The Fish Spa. We also went to a fish-spa. You've heard of it. You dip your feet in the water and those fish come and eat away and sort of peel away your dead skin cells. It was kinda a good deal 35000 Rupiah (+- Rm12) for 30 minutes per person. It was our first time and zomg it was crazy ticklish.

The fish-spa is something controversial. Some people say you can get HIV from it. Creepy, but kinda true.

Supposedly there's two types of fish - Garra Rufa (GR) and Chin Chin (CC). Yeah sounds funny but you can google them up. According to this banner at the poolside, CC is bad cause they have teeth and might eat some parts of the flesh and transfer them from one person to another, hence the HIV theory. GR is the good one because they don't have any gigi and they just suck instead of actually biting. And the spa uses GR's services.

Based on what I read online, most spas have been using the GR making those fish-lover-animal-protector people mad and they made the GR a protected fish. So people tried to find fake GR hence the CC.

There's always a fake next to the original eh?

Okay, back to Efa. Since she's around sleeping beside me, we spent our nights on Paranormal Activity marathons. Sigh, no life betul. Started with PA3 then 1 then 2. PA3 is like the scariest one, I almost pissed my pants. Almost.

My little sister got into a boarding school in Ipoh to start her form 1 last year then a month later she got into another school in Teluk Intan so with a heavy heart, she had to move out. Because 1)You think you can escape from what Aj wants for you? 2)Well, the school in Teluk Intan is a better one, no dispute.

We - Aj, Mrs.Aj, Zarif, Afif, me - all went to send her when school reopened earlier this month, on 3rd of January. It was a Tuesday. The subsequent Saturday - like 4 days after sending her - we - everyone except Afif - came back to her school to visit her and drop off some things she left behind. The Saturday after that, yes today, we, the whole family, came again to visit her and give her food and this other tudung she left behind.

Oh and last year, my mom went to visit her each and every single Saturday throughout the whole year. (Except the balik kampung weekends.)

Now tell me, my adik manja or super duper manja? Pfffft.

Anyways, last week ;

Aj: So whats new at your school?

Sis: Hmm semalam got one boy kena rasuk.

Me: Hahaha.

Was watching the news with Aj just now and this came on tv. About some jalan runtuh in Kampung Felda Belara in Terengganu and the reporter was like "Ini membahayakan penduduk setempat bla bla bla."

Aj : Ni bahaya?? Mana ada bahaya macam ni. Tu jalan tu ada je lagi separuh. Abah dulu masa kecik, nak pergi sekolah mana ada jalan macamni. Lagi teruk dari ni, boleh je survive. Pfft."

My white coats

1) I had the tailor take my measurements when I had this made. But the result; as if I gave the tailor measurements of my dad's body. -__-

2) The only time I've ever ironed my white coat was once when I was in Dermatology. I have lots of other important things to do, like watch Grey's Anatomy and clean my kitchen.

3) I noticed that in Indonesia, the white coats worn by doctors are body-fitting and short whilst the ones worn by my friends in India, Ireland and Malaysia are long and big and normal. I think I prefer the Malaysian kind. I have friends who had their white coats made so body-fitting and small and skin tight that they look so unprofessional. Err we're supposed to be doctors, not _____. Fill in the blank yourselves.

4) The difference between students like me and the residents; our names are in green and theirs are in red. And the specialists/consultants have their names in navy blue and their coats comes in long sleeves. Normal people can't have long sleeves, yes I know this place is a bit pelik you don't have to tell me that.

5) S.Ked is my 'pangkat' and it stands for Sarjana Kedokteran. -_____- Why can't they just use 'perubatan' like our country? Why 'kedokteran'?? Whyyyy? Ok whatever.

6) Sometimes I look at the AJ at the end of my name and I think of how Jaafar is a very classic name and how I don't know anyone my age or younger than me named Jaafar. And how its a grown-up name and how weird it must be when my dad is like a 5 year old boy and people calls him Jaafar. Or looking at a baby and asking the mother what she named him and she said Jaafar. Whoaa weirddd. That's like a name for an old man, you get what I mean?

If you don't mind spoilers - the story is about a guy finding out he's got cancer, (Adam) and trying to deal with it with chemo and stuff. His girlfriend cheated on him bla bla bla but the ending was a happy one - thank goddd. Killing JGL off would be a crime. He he he.

It was a last minute decision to come home so naturally a direct flight to KL from Makassar costs a fortune. Dammit. So I had to rethink my decision. And rethink and rethink and rethink aaaand yeah, I wana go home. Ipoh needs me.

I was on night shift at the ER last night. It was...super exhausting. There were only 5 of us. The chief; they'll pick someone in their 8th week into the rotation to become a leader and make up our shift schedules. Usually, there's 8 people for night shift. This #*»£$€ chief guy only put 5.

So #*»£$€ la this fella!!!!

Night shift is from 9pm til 7am. From 9 til midnight, everyone has to be on standby. Then we divided Team A 12-3.30 and Team B from 3.30 til 7.

Team A - Me and those two girls.

Team B - A and Z.

Guess what, at 3.30, when we called A and Z up, they switched off their phones.... Then we went to the oncall room and they're not there either.... Aaaaaaa!! Stress aku.

It really sucks to be on the same shift as all the irresponsible idiots in this world.

Bla bla bla.... And I was leaving the hospital around 4am. The mosques were already mengaji ing before their azan at 430. T___T

Relieved and worn out, I went to bed. I dreamt I was still at the ER and like double or triple times more busy than I actually was on my shift. My alarm woke me up at 8. I felt mentally exhausted from that dream. Ishh. I continued sleeping and woke up around 1030. This time I dreamt I met Vivy and she's got this fluffy orange cat in this cage and I was interviewing her and I was living in an orphanage.

*nangis!* So penat like thissss.

1) Today I was on clinic duty. Basically I had to check their bp, ask them to step on the scale to write down their weight, clerk them and access their main complaint. Then present them to the doctor and observe what meds she's giving and\or further tests she decides to do. Zzzz.

2) Clinics open at 9am but I was already there at 730am. I sat outside on the bench and gazed upon the early birds who's already in queue at registration. There was an old couple and as they strode pass me hand in hand, I thought to myself 'that's so UP-ish'.

3) So one of my patient was this old lady. She had hearing problems so whatever I say, the daughter repeats (shouts) it back to her hehe it was kinda funny. She's got these really nice earrings on - it was round and flat, kinda like a flowery shape with small diamonds embedded on em. Then on her finger, I forgot which one, there was a matching ring. Must be a gift from the husband for their anniversary or something. Maybe stolen jewelry - who knows right.

4) I've got this other patient, she's 30 with chest pains. She's got two kids and she weights 46kg. Zomg I so want that. She's not exactly skinny per se but well, to be only 46kg after giving birth twice, that's not normal right? Okay maybe if in Somalia its normal but not in Malaysia, righttt?

5) I had this other patient, her name was Bulan. Classic, no?

Obstruction

I'm on my way to work. The hospital is 40 to 60 minutes away from my place, depending on the assholeness of the traffic and how fast the driver of this public transport wants to go. I mention public transport so you guys wouldn't assume I have my own driver. I don't. So I doubt the driver would try to hurry when the vehicle is not yet filled with passengers.

Lucky me, the vehicle is currently a sardine can.

I'm in charge of a room in the ward on the second floor. The ward is called Baji Pamai and I don't have the slightest clue of what that might be. My room is 206 and I'm in charged of 5 patients.

Since Baji Pamai is a male ward, all these 5 people are of my opposite gender.

I learn that sometimes, to be a doctor, you've to be heartless.

For example, one of my patients, he's suffering from nephrolithiasis. Or a more un-canggih name would be kidney stones. So during rounds, my resident explained to my patient that to see the stones and their size, we'd need to do some tests. One of them is this expensive 600k rupiah test and sadly his basic insurance doesn't cover the cost.

Damn awkward.

Sleep deprivation

Aftermath of being at work for 99 hours last week.

Which, if divided equally, its like working 14 hours from Monday to Sunday, except I took an MC on Wednesday and was at the hospital for 23 hours on Sunday. If I didn't get sick on Wednesday it would've been 122 hours of work last week. T_T

Sometimes when I get sooooo tired, I close my eyes and say to myself "Urgh I wish I'm a robot."

Currently standing on a table at the corner of the oncall room in the Infection Centre, WS Hospital.

I admit, its a nice oncall room. The furnitures are new, just like the building itself. The aircond works great and the toilet is nice. BUT, they say the place is haunted vavi betul ah. My friends were like "Ohh ko jaga kat I.C tu? Hmm ko tau kan pasal tempat tu?" Vavi vavi vavi vaviiiii.

My oncall duty today is from now up till 9pm.

And did I mention how I've to stay here alone cause there's only one person per shift since the patients are so few in this building? Yeah.

Sure, there's a resident doctor on duty as well, but sometimes, even the doctor prefers to go sit in oncall rooms of other buildings cause they're scared. What the...

Crispy crisp

1) Don't you just hate it when people give you crisp new notes? Like you buy something and in your balance you find a crisp new note. Well I hate it. Cause I couldn't bring myself to spend those crisp new notes.

2) For the past year I've been collecting all the crisp new notes that comes to my purse for visits.

3) I decided to finally count them. The amount was Rp.101000 which is like Rm40. -__- I thought it was more.

4) Indonesia introduced a newer Rp10000 note some time ago. It looks exactly the same with the current one except the colour is...more pale? The one in light pink up there.

5) This year my hair went from brown to darker brown to reddish brown to black again. Random fact, I know.

6) Sorry about the pictures up there, BB's camera sucks.

7) I was thinking, mentang-mentang lah its a Rp20000 so the fella on the note gets to wear a suit lah? Whilst the others wear...well..those things.

8) I'm hungry so babai.

Dyla's new shoes. Cause you know, I can't blog without putting up a picture, any picture. Heheh.

You know you're in Makassar when...

1) Upon landing, the stewardess would announce "Please stay put in your seats and have your seat belts on and wait until the plane has stopped moving" but nobody in the plane listens (except a few people like me) and they'll start standing and busy taking out their cabin luggage from the above compartments. This will force the stewardess to repeat her announcement, alas people never bothered still.

2) The phone line sucks. You can barely connect to 3G at times and the 2G acts like chipsmore. These few days, my phone line has totally out suck itself, mak aku call pun asyik terputus putus dahla aku tengah homesick asjsksjdhdgsgsgsgsvdghss.

3) You speak Melayu in public and everyone will look at you in amazement and have this 'Zomg its Justin Bieber!!' look on their faces.

4) You have to take off the gold necklace your mom gave you cause if you don't and you go out to campus or out to buy groceries, strangers would come to you and warn you that's its better if you don't wear it. I swear to god two random makciks came to me to warn me at two different places. Fine I'll take it off.

5) You sit in KFC eating with your friends, chatting and out of nowhere the mall blacks out, no lights, for like 5 seconds and then its on again. Sometimes it happens when you're in the middle of watching a movie. Sometimes it happens for more than once in one day. -__-

6) No more FREE food.

Yeah I'm back here in this place and work starts next Sunday. Yeah Sunday. FML.

Birthday present-ish

Actually, I'm still in the process of accepting that I am now no longer a 22 year old female homosapien.

What's good about getting older? There's wrinkles, uban, we have to eat oat, veges, take care of health, give money to kids and sales girls calls us kak. I wanna stay young I wanna be a vampire. -__-

I didn't really celebrate the other day. Went to Domino's with F and he gave me some stuffs then my parents took me and Zarif out for a movie. We watched Apollo 18 and it was kinda boring and scary. Could there really be something out there on the moon? Then on the way home Zarif and Aj started talking about Sheikh Muzaffar pulak dah.

So, I didn't really get anything from my folks but I did need a new battery for my mac. Unfortunately one costs Rm590. They sponsored half of the price and Nadia helped me get them from Machines Klcc.

1. I was gonna pen down a reasonably long post about my trip to KK about two months ago but then I got caught up with excessive sleeping...you know how it is, those semester breaks. So now I'm gonna share some stuffs about the trip.

2. The seafood wasn't that good. Or did we not eat at the right places? I'm being optimistic here.

3. Mount Kinabalu. We only went to the kaki gunung and god it was soooo cold. Bumped into my highschool friend Balqis whom I've never seen ever since form 4 (cause looking at photos in Facebook doesn't count as seeing). Of all the places, we met in KK.

4. We went snorkeling, I wasn't impressed. The coral reefs in Makassar are prettier. Or did we snorkel in the wrong places? Optimistic yet again.

Budget New Zealand.

5. At the airport heading back to KL we bumped into Asyraf Muslim. I have no feelings, Dyla have never even heard of Asyraf Muslim...hahaha "Mana aku kenal Asyraf Muslim, kalau Faizal Tahir aku tau ah." On the other hand Chana and Nadia were...well, lets just say that they're his big fans. They were really shy so Dyla helped ask if we could take pictures with him.

6. What else? Oh yea, we fed squirrels. Finished Dyla's whole bar of hazelnut chocolate.

7. One time, it was so foggy, there won't be nice backgrounds if we snap pictures. But, we took pictures anyways.

Wanted : An instant tree

Thought I'd share a random picture.

This is what's left of the Cempedak (or Nangka? I'm not so sure...) Tree outside my house, erecting right next to my bedroom. There's black ants all over my walls and they've been terrorizing my air-conditioner so Aj had to call people to service it and decided to cut down the tree, since the ants originated from it.

I was leaving the house with Aj one day and we came across this old man with his wife on a motorcycle holding a big chainsaw. Aj stopped them and asked how much for upah tebang pokok? And they said it depends on the size of the tree. They followed us home, gazed at our tree and said Rm100.

Aj tried to negotiate a discount but they said its a fixed price. Wah, I didn't know cutting down trees would be so expensive. I mean, how cool is it to say "Hi, I'm a doctor but during my free time, I cut down trees to get extra money."

One medium sized tree = Rm100 so I've got to cut down how many to get Rm10 000? Erm.. *calculates* I've got to cut down about 100 medium sized trees to afford a Chanel bag. Who's got a chainsaw? May I borrow it for like...hmm 100 trees...3 months? Around 33 trees a month so like one tree a day, I can totally do that. Chainsaw, anyone? Pleaseee?

Now my room's temperature has slightly heighten and when I told Aj about it he said he's gonna plant 'an instant tree' but the only instant tree I know is from Jack and The Beanstalk and as far as I'm concerned, the beanstalk isn't known for its shadiness.

Then mom added "Ouuh like the one in Makkah, the biiiig umbrella that opens during the day, we should have one of that outside your room."

My parents....sometimes its like talking to 10 year old kids. Heheh.

Opah's mopping routine is not for the weak

This is Opah's fridge. Its huuuge and its only half full. I think you can fit in six normal sized babies on the shelves. Not that we keep babies in these things. He he. My Pak Lang bought it for her for last year's Mother's Day. Or was it the year before last year?

Anyways I'm sleeping over at her house tonight. My other opah, Aj's mom, is gonna spend the night here as well. She's got this doctor's appointment at Ipoh's GH tomorrow so she comes here from kampung today, sleepover and tomorrow I'm taking her to the appointment.

So I just got here at Opah's and she's like "Anis tolong mop rumah aku, kotor lantai ni, aku malu. Aku sakit ni. Punggung aku sakit." So I said "Punggung Opah sakit?" And she replied "Ha ah, piring punggung aku sakit."

Piring punggung? We didn't learn that in anatomy. There were pelvis and sacrum but nope, no piring punggung. -___-

So I started to mop the floor. Mixed floor cleaner and water and dipped in the mop and all that jazz. Halfway through she said "Lepasni mop lagi sekali ye. Kamu bilas pulak, celup mop tu dalam ayor paip."

When I was almost done with the second round - mopping with plain water - Opah said "Mana mop kaler putih aku? Kamu nampak? Nanti tolong le lap balik dengan mop kering tu, idak ler basah benor lantai ni."

By the time I finished all three rounds I was already panting and sweating. Damn my stamina is non existent. Tsk.

I sat down in the kitchen and helped my parched self to a cup of Strawberry soda.

Opah yelled to mom "Si Anis tu letih ke?" Mom took one look at me and said "Takde lah." as if I was busy doing sit ups. -__-

Today marks the 21st day of Ramadhan. Meaning that there's about 10 days left before Raya. That was quick.

Amongst my family members, Afif's the first one to start on his Raya holidays. Mom said "Matrik nak cepat-cepat halau kome taknak kasi highway jem Jumaat depan" when we went to fetch him last Friday.

So anyways, Afif wanted to copy some movies from me and so he gave me his bangkai of a pendrive. And I was like "Whaaa your pendrive's so coooooollll lah. Where'd you get it?" And he said "Ni pendrive Kingston Afif laa. Dah banyak kali jatuh pastu baju dia tercabut. T____T Haritu cikgu Afif pun kagum pastu tangkap gambar pendrive ni dia kata nak upload dekat Facebook. T______T And then ada kawan kelas Afif tiru, dia pun buat pendrive dia jadi camni. T_____T"

So I said "Oooouuhhh. Ok choose whatever movie you want."

Macaroons are these small cake-ish pastry-ish food people eat, in case you're like Dyla and never heard of them. They're really cute.

Today I made history. Well actually me and Amilia made history. She wanted to try and bake them and invited me to help since I was always yapping about how boring my life is doing nothing at home.

I was so surprised. It was so easy to make, you only need four things.

Macaroons = (egg white + sugar) + (icing sugar + blended almond).

Nak buat karipap lagi susah.

Yeah the macaroons we made weren't quiet as symmetrical as we wished they were. I mean, how do those shops make em so round? Guna jangka lukis? But they're edible! So yayyyy!

I'm in the car with my parents right now. I now know what it feels like to be the only child. This is the first time I feel like my siblings have all grown up. Usually whenever I'm back there's my sister at home, or my brother on his semester break or something. But this time nada, just me and two old people at home. It sucks.

Zarif it at UTP, Afif at Matrix Gopeng and Serena just enrolled into Semesti early this year. They're all in Perak but not Ipoh. Sheeesh.

I sat in front of mum the other day and I was like "Mak tak rasa ke anak-anak Mak semua dah grown up?" Then she laughed at me. -___-

I feel that way. Semua orang dah flew away from the nest. Melancholic gila. T___T

Anyways AJ took the day off today and mom got a holiday for 1st Ramadhan so they ajak me follow them to kampung to see my Opah and send her some stuff then we're gona go to UTP and berbuka with Zarif. I was the one driving when we headed to kampung but now AJ took over the wheels.

AJ said "Kamu ni bawak slow benor." Padahal whenever I start to speed he keep saying "Ehh! Slow Anis, slow!! Abah sakit jantung dengan kamu bawak kereta macam ni. Eh signal signal."

The immigration hassle

To study medicine in Indonesia you have to be strong, mentally and physically. Also, a tough digestive system would help since if you eat whatever you want, you'll be paying numerous visits to the bathroom. The eating industry (or food industry? Or whatever its called) doesn't care much about hygiene around here. Most of them anyways.

But I'm not gona elaborate on that matter today.

Today is immigration talk. The thing I hate most about studying in this country, to be honest. And this post is gona be a long one. I suggest reading it with a glass of orange juice.

First, before getting on a plane to this place, I have to go to the Indonesian Embassy in KL to have this thing called a Visa B (VB) done. A VB costs Rm170. It let's you stay on Indonesian soil for 60 days.

After 60 days, I'll have to renew my VB. Go to the Immigration Office (IO) to send the form, come again to pay Rm100, and another visit to pick up the passport. Three separate days of back and forth to the IO. The Rm100 gives me a 30 day extension. After that period, the three-day visit happens again.

That's why I'm telling you, don't study in Indonesia. Unless, of course, you find pleasure in going back and forth the IO.

Renewing the VB for a year would be Rm1200 in total. Whoa.

There's another option; the KITAS.

KITAS = Kartu Izin Tinggal (something) Sementara. But let's just call it K.

K is an annual permit priced Rm400/year. Yes people, nothing is free except the oxygen. Well, the K is cheaper in comparison to the Rm1200 worth of Visa B renewals.

So how to get a K? The first thing you have to know is that it doesn't fall off the sky. Getting a K requires at least 6 months. Do the VB in KL, renew the VB for three months. THEN and only then you can apply for a K. It usually takes up to a month to be ready. Its this yellow card made of this kad manila-ish paper with your picture on it, some signatures and a stamp with the date it expires. Its not even laminated. Even our country's driving's license looks prettier. -___-

What's the difference between a K and a VB aside from the price? Good question.

If I leave this country with a VB, it automatically expires so the next time I come back here I'd have to go to the embassy in KL first and start over, pay Rm170 and bla bla. But with a K I don't have to. The only this is, I've to get this thing called a Entry Re-entry Permit (ERP) before I can get on that plane heading to Malaysia. An ERP costs Rm80.

Nothing. Is. Free.

Getting an ERP takes a week. First go to the campus, at the admin office, tell this clerk lady to get a print a letter from the university saying that you wana apply for an ERP. The next day get the letter (RM2.50), bring it over to the IO, buy this application file (RM5), fill up the forms, send it. The next day come again to pay the Rm80. Two days after that come again to get back your passport. The ERP allows me to leave Indonesia and re-enter it in a 3months period.

After all that is done, I get peace at mind and I'll be ready to hop happily on my plane heading home.

So during hospital rotations, I'd have to find my own time to sneak off to the IO and get things done. Life sucks.

The other day, I had to renew my K. My problem was, I had to send in a copy of this thing called an Izin Belajar (IB) along with other things in the application.

The university sends this piece of paper with all our names to this country's Kementeriaan Pendidikan in Jakarta. Its like, we, foreigners, are asking them for permission to get education from this country. Then they'll reply with an official letter stating that the list of students stated on it are allowed to study here for a year. That's the IB.

Being an annual thing, the uni had to renew the IB every year. The process takes an average of two months.

As I was saying, I wanted to renew my K. Thing is, the uni is renewing the IB so the latest IB isn't available yet. So what now? They told me to make a permission letter to delay my K renewal. The letter costs Rm100 and it gives me a month. The next month I have to make another permission letter cause the IB is still not done. Another Rm100. To get the permission letter, the steps were the same as getting an ERP; multiple visits to the IO. Super tedious. They think I'm a housewife with a lot of free time, maybe.

This was where the drama happened.

I was in Peads. I had to get the permission letter done for the second time. I was so caught up with my oncalls, I forgot about it.

I was THREE days late.

Went to the immigration office and they said I have to pay a fine of 50USD per day.

10 USD is RM40, more or less. RM40 is 100000 Rupiah, more or less. So 50USD is 500000 Rupiah, more or less. That is for a day. I'm three bloody days late. Do your math.

1 500 000 Rupiah?

WTF.

Why was I late? I was busy help saving this country's children at the hospital.

And these people wana fine me for it?

WTF weh?

As if Peads wasn't stressful enough.

So what happened? I asked to speak to this woman with a slightly high pangkat behind the counter, sat at her desk, then she started to lecture me.

Can you believe her?

She said if you come to this country, your number one priority isn't your studies, its the Immigration. No mercy at all on her fac

Fuck.

I looked down at my lap...and...broke into tears. Loud. I don't care, I was stressed, I was oncall and I had to sneak off to the IO, I have no time, peads was hell and now this??!

She felt some pity, calmed me down, gave me a solution and I got through it.

I can't believe I cried.

That was the story.

But whatever, two more years. Two more years two more years two more years two more years two more years two more years. Ok, I feel better. Bye.

Anyyyways, I was watching House just now; S05E15. The fella had hallucinations which made him go to the hospital for treatment and then other symptoms appeared...yadda yadda yadda...in the end, the symptoms that came later were the key to diagnose his disease. However the hallucination - finding Jesus on his doorstep - has nothing to do with his illness. It was merely a coincidence.

The episode ended with the patient being amazed by the coincidence, ergo he said "Coincidence is God's way of remaining anonymous, Einstein said that." Which made me curious. Did Einstein really said that?

Not wanting to kill the curiosity cat, I googled.

*my breakfast - ChocoRilla - supposedly this gorilla-shaped Koko Krunch-ish cereal. I'm not gona lie, I bought it cause it was cheaper than the real Koko Krunch (like Rm4 cheaper ok!) and I was broke. Turns out, its quite sedap. True story.*

Radiology was the shortest rotation consisting of only 3 weeks. This last one however is the longest one of the lot; 11 weeks. That's like...77 days. Zomg. Add another 3 days and I can be like Around the World in 80 Days except I'll be around the hospital. How lame. -___-

Annnnnyways, since I call the shots i.e I have the power to decide when to start any particular rotation, I decided that after Dermatology, I'm gona take 2 months off from saving the world. Cewah saving la sangat kan.

I'm gona spend the whole fasting month at home annnnd the whole of Raya as well. So, hello Bazaar Ramadhans (BR), hello waking up to free food for sahur, hello to actually waking up for sahur. I don't sahur if its not at home. Just. Can't. Get. Up.

Besides, if I went ahead with Internal Med next monday I'll only finish by 19th September. I'll have to spend the whole of fasting month here and most probably get only two days off for Raya. Only two days?! Hmm two days off or two months off? *pretends to think of which one to choose* Mehhhhh. No thanks, I'll take 2 months.

Do you know that eventhough Indonesia is like Malaysia's next door neighbour, they don't have BRs around here. Zilch. There's only people selling like...some local kuihs (yang tak sedap hahaha) and water yang..in no way can match soya cincau beb.

I don't think I've to explain how awesome our BRs are. So, work like a slave at the hospital and then no BR to end my day with?! Itupun kalau tak oncall for the night, kalau oncall, bentang red carpet dari hospital ke BR pun tak boleh pergi jugak. Hmph. No thanks, I'm coming home for my looooong holiday. Period.

The question is, how do these people live in this BR-less place? Howwww?! *Gasp*

We should be grateful for our BR. *Looks up to sky* Terima kasih tuhan!

My flight home is in a week but can I start packing tonight? :P

3. Residents are doctors currently in the process of becoming a specialist in their respected fields. Just in case you don't know.

4. I'm coming home in less than 2 weeks, can I start packing already?

5. Yesterday was AJ's birthday; the only person in my life who calls me Izatti. Albeit occasionally.

6. Derms residents wear a lot of makeup.

7. There are hardly any male residents, most of them are women.

8. So far, I've never seen any of them wearing pants to work. The ladies I mean. They're either in a dress or a skirt, long or short. Why?

9. I wonder why money smells like money. You know, why people would wanna make money smell like they do. Can't we have odorless money? Why do they smell? Why?

10. Hmm. I have to go fulfill my responsibility towards MARA and go read my book. Bye.

Dermatology rotation

Let's talk about it since I can't seem to fall asleep. My genius self spent the whole afternoon napping like a whale, hence the insomnia I'm experiencing at the moment. Sigh.

So...dermatology. Its my 9th day and I find this rotation super relaxing. I've got only two oncall shifts last week and this week, only one!! *big grin*

Last time in Peads;
Week 1 : 9 shifts
Week 2 : 8 shifts
Week 3 : 13 shifts
Week 4 : 16 shifts (Salebangang)
Week 5 : 7 shifts
Week 6 : 6 shifts
Week 7 : 5 shifts
Week 8 : 7 shifts
Week 9 : 16 shifts (NICU)
Week 10 : 1 shift

There's 16 slots in a week so weeks with 16 shifts means I'm oncall literally 24/7. During that time, whenever I'm at home I'd be sleeping. So now, when I come home after office hours, I'm programmed to just....zzzZzZ.

I'm such a whale.

Enough on my sleep disorder, let's talk about my first week.

Have you ever heard of Leprosy? Us and Indonesians would call it Kusta. The Japanese would call it...well, that one you have to google up yourself. For the first 3 days, my life revolves around Leprosy. The first day, we spent time at this Pusat Latihan Kusta Nasional (PLKN - PLKN??! I know righttt.) We were given a brief course on Leprosy, how it spreads, how its cured, how the meds work, what side effects come with it, the prognosis bla bla bla blaahhh.

At the end of the day, we've to answer a quiz cause they wanna know if we actually listened or if we slept the whole day with our eyes opened.

There's this fella, the first one to give us a talk, he had limited time to explain a bunch of things to us. He kept repeating "They didn't give me much time for my slot, so I have to be quick, I've a lot to explain" over and over and over again. Hello, if you haven't much time, then just move on la instead of wasting it telling us about not having time. Irony. -__-

That up there, is not my grandfather. He's Hansen (not a typo for handsome) the guy who discovered the bacteria causing Leprosy. So the I-dont-have-much-time guy spent his time asking each of us in the room (well there were only 15 of us but still....) weather we think Hansen is from Norway, Denmark or Sweden. T____T

Wasting your precious time to see if we know where Hansen played hide and seek as a child. Really??

In case you're curious, he's from Norway. Hansen, not the I-dont-have-time guy.

The second and third day we went to TC; a hospital for kusta people. We're here to apply what they taught us the day before. How to examine the patients and so on. I touched a patient. Without any gloves. So did my friends. I guess reading medicine in a third world island (Sulawesi) of a third world country has its downside. There weren't any gloves. Plus, contrary to popular believe, Leprosy isn't highly contagious. Plusssss, I washed my hand afterwards. With soap. So we're good? Still friends with me? Great.

Most people are phobic cause they lack knowledge and understanding. Let's learn a few things, shall we?

Leprosy mainly spreads via air droplets rather than skin to skin contact. So, like the doctor at TC said "Apabila anda masuk ke kawasan Rumah Sakit ini, ada sudah menghirup udara Lepra! Haha." Yeah she laughed. Can you believe that? -___-

Skin to skin contact may get you infected but you've to be in close contact with a Leprosy patient for a long time, like years. And there's trauma like cuts and whatnot on your hands to further compromise your defense system. If not, you won't likely get infected.

Furthermore, on average 95% of us have a natural immunity towards this bacteria. So out of 100 people who were unlucky enough to come across M.Leprae (the germ has a name ok) only 5 would get infected and out of that, 3 of them would heal on their own without any symptoms. For the remaining 2, I'm sorry guys but you might have Leprosy, the world is a cruel place, I know.

See? Harmless isn't it?

The doctor was like "I've been working here since 1988 and I'm still fit as a fiddle. Look at me, I'm healthy! No Leprosy for me! Ha ha ha ha."

Okay maybe I added some stuff, but that was basically what she said.

Bottom line is, our immune system is a very important thing. Eat your fruits, don't skip meals and practice a healthy lifestyle. Do I sound like an commercial from Kementerian Kesihatan or what? :D

You remember that ad on tv where they put on an unbuckled helmet to a watermelon and showed how the melon smashed? It has nothing to do with Leprosy, the ad just suddenly appeared on my mind. That was random.

There was this one time, probably 2 years ago, I was at Pavilion with Nada, Myra and Leeya. So Nada and Leeya wanted to withdraw some money from the ATM and we were like "Korang pernah select 'Bahasa Melayu' ?" "Hahaha tak pernah doh. Pelik je. Siapala orang yang pilih BM bahaha." Then Leeya snapped "Oii tepi, aku nak guna ATM. And aku orang tu, yang pilih Bahasa Melayu, korang memangla...blablabla (something sarcastic) blabla."

LOL.

Good times though.

I just payed a visit to the ATM just now and suddenly I thought, eh I've never clicked on 'Bahasa Indonesia'. Nope, not even once in my (almost) 4 years of living here.

So just now, I chose Bahasa Indonesia. NOT.

Haha.

Anyyyyhow, I'm so good at wasting money. I think I should write a book. 'Money and How To Waste Them; a book suitable for rich people who hates money.' And then sell the book for a really expensive price. First page : You actually bought this book? Congratulations! You've just wasted good money.

Okkkkk I digress.

Babies come, babies go

Overdue pictures from Peri week when I was in Peads last time. Ceh 'last time' konon padahal baru left Peads a week ++ ago.

Each morning we have to weigh each baby on this electronic scale. Thing is, the scale is broken and the readings could be wrong. And all the other manual scales in that place is broken or has an error of some sort. What laaa. T___T

This baby was admitted from the surgical people, a few days before my week ended. The new shift in NICU told me that he's dead now. Oh well, heaven, no suffering, probably for the best.

After my sick baby died, this one came in. ZOMG she cries A LOT. Like there's no tomorrow. AND YES PEOPLE I KNOW HOW TO HOLD A BABY OKAY.

Aimi bought a soft toy as a souvenir for her baby before we left. And terus taruh dalam incubator hahahaha kambing dalam incubator. The nurse gave some scolding cause well, the lamb isn't sterile. Which makes sense. :P

This is Aimi's baby. M took a look at her and said "Eh, Megamind!"

Daddy issues

Its Father's Day!!

Personally, I don't celebrate this event but what would be the harm in texting AJ and wishing him. I typed out a simple text message, with full spellings cause he can't understand short forms. My parents must've been able to predict my format by now cause I ALWAYS end a text with "Take care of your health yada yada...exercise yada yada.."

You can't blame me, I see sick, old people on a daily basis, I'm bound to become paranoid. Some of them were dying, and a fair amount even died. Right in front of me. All because of some stupid diseases you could prevent with a simple low cholesterol diet and regular exercise.

I look at those sick people and I see potential future AJ and Mrs.AJ. Its a mental torture. -___-

So yes, I will continue to nag them to take care of their health.

I'm not close to my dad. Leave me and him in a room alone and I would feel the awkwardness to my bones. But as the years go by, I've learned to appreciate him more. For instance, if I'm at home, and I'm out til late, and he calls, I actually answer the phone! I used to never answer his calls. Ever. Hahaha.

AJ isn't one of those 'sporting' dads. Any friends of mine who calls me via the house phone would be interviewed by him. If they're unlucky enough that he picks up the phone. Name, where do you study, purpose of the call and so many other things I'm not even surprised if he wants to know your UPSR result. Once my friend called me up. AJ asked why do you need to talk to Anis and my friend made the mistake of answering "Nak bersembang." Hahahah.

What did AJ do? He said "Oh Anis is not interested to sembang-sembang." and hung up. And I didn't even know my friend called until she told me about it later. YES, SHE. Girls, boys, girlish boys, boyish girls, whoever you are, AJ will grill you. Well, not just you, I'll get his piece of mind as well.

Once this guy called me, so after that AJ bugged me with truckloads of inquiries about the fella, it drove me nuts. Then every time the phone rings, my heart stopped beating and I'll repeat please let the call be for someone else, please please please.... T____T

Phew... I'm glad those days are over.

Anyways, AJ replied my text with "Bla bla..Abah will follow for what Anis want Abah to do..bla bla" Think someone with broken English can't get a phD? You haven't met AJ. I mean, Dr.AJ. He he he.

Once upon a time, when we weren't cool yet.

I usually call him up if he's in a tornado of life crisis but yesterday, I decided to give Zarif a ring...just because. So what I found out in the fourteen-minute conversation;

1. He's gonna go to Lost World in Tambun with a bunch of his friends.

2. UTP has a great gym.

3. He's got this gym buddy who is a wakil Malaysia for this archery sport thingy.

4. The archer guy has a mantap body.

5. The archer guy knows people who can get this calory burner thing called Lipo 6 Black which is like not available in stores in Malaysia. In a bad, illegal-ish way. Haha.

6. The Lipo 6 Black helps you burn fat, like if you go jogging, you'll sweat three times more than average.

7. Zarif bought Lipo 6 Black from the archer guy.

8. Also he's so happy about it and he wants me to google the stuff up if I don't believe him. -__-

9. He currently has 4 packs on his abdomen.

10. He's targeting the 6 packs by the end of this year.

11. He got 3A's in last semester's result and mom gave him Rm50 for an A. (Cis tak aci!)

12. He's got this computer geek friend who's gonna teach him how to put together a computer from parts. (Or something like that.)

13. Its magrib and he needs to go pray.

Conclusion : My brother talks a LOT. I just have to say "What's new with you?" And things pour out like a rain storm. Hehe. I miss him.

Apples and oranges and dragon fruits

1. I had a weird dream last night. I helped this doctor steal kidneys for the sake of saving Australia's Great Barrier Reef. Hmm I don't know how those two could even relate but yeah that was what happened in my subconscious mind last night.

2. In my dream the night before, I was about to take my exam in a tall building - yeah, in real life I was done with exams then balik rumah tidur lepastu pergi mimpi nak take exam lagi sekali pffft - so I looked down the window, and what do I see? Ultraman fighting off a this godzilla-ish monster. -____-

3. I dream a loooottttt. Almost every night. Last Sunday when I was finally freed from taking care of babies I slept and in my dream there I was, in the NICU again, taking care of babies. My mind needs to shutdown sometimes. You don't dream if you're in a deep sleep. I need DEEP SLEEP! My brain is a messy place. Sigh.

4. Speaking of mess, my room currently looks like it has been run down by a mini tornado. Bree from Desperate Housewives would give one look and faint but an average 4th year med student would say "Mehh standard la tu."

5. I watched The Shawshank Redemption (TSR) yesterday with Sarah. Second time for me, first time for her. So Sarah asked, from where did I get the idea to download the movie? I watched Going The Distance and Drew Barrymore said her favourite movie is TSR and so I googled in up and downloaded it. Funny how a movie leads you to another.

6. Oh and TSR is a goooood watch. Prison movies are always good. Totally recommended.

7. I went to Aimi's room the other day to pass some notes to her, lepaked and watched her TV. Another Cinderella Story was playing on channel entah-apa-aku-lupa. Mehh, such crap. The school prom night and Selena Gomez put on that mask that only covers the periorbital region (medical term sikit teehee) then people go like "Ooouhh who's that girl?" Whaaatttt? 8. My Pead's exam was on Friday. It was with Dr.Bob. And no, he's not fat. I don't know why Bobs are always fat but this one isn't. I don't have a picture but just trust me.

9. The oral exam was for an hour and I was so nervous my palms were sweating like crazy. Seriously. I could put out a fire by just clapping them. So sweaty, eww. It was after Friday's prayer so the first thing he asked was "Have you eaten lunch?" I said yes, but he hasn't so I sat there in front of him while he ate. It was so awkwarddddd. He finished his meal, it was rice with ayam goreng I think, I didn't dare stare at him. So then he started asking me questions. And whilst asking he poked his teeth with that thingy. Ala apa nama bendalah tu eh....Ha! Pencungkil gigi! He was wearing braces so yeah. Sambil questioning me, sambil 'cleansing'. Multitasking. -___-

10. This is the second time this happened to me. The first time was Psych's exam. My examiner then 'cleansed' whilst asking me stuffs as well. Hmmm, I guess oral hygiene shouldn't be taken for granted.

11. Yeayyy Peads is finally overrrrr!!! Wooohooooo. Peads in one word; Hell.

12. I wanna upload pictures...but maybe later.

13. So...Dermatology rotation starts tomorrow. First day; Pusat Kusta.

Hi everyone! I'm....well, actually I don't have a name yet. But you must be familiar with that dramaqueen up there, Anis. Since she's been so busy most of the time, I thought I'd help her update this little blog of hers. Cause you know, she said she has a lot of stalkers waiting for updates and all. Pffft, she's so perasan. Menyampah.

Oh, let me introduce myself. I was born a few days ago on 29th May 2011. Anis told me that my file says that my mom had some complications upon giving birth to me so I guess figuring out a name for me must've slipped her mind.

Anis said that when the water broke (and please don't tell me you have no idea about which 'water' I'm talking about, don't you watch tv? "OMG I think my water just broke" is practically in every movie with a pregnant woman), my mom couldn't push me out of her V. And if you don't know what V is, go jump off a bridge. So she had a prolonged labour. She didn't straightaway head over to the hospital either, she went to the bidan first, then to this other kampung health clinic or something thennnn only she hurried off to this hospital where they had to c-section her to get me out. Sigh, what a way to come into this world huh.

Eventhough I wasn't born premature and I had an ideal birth weight, the prolonged labour thingy left a really big impact on me. I have blood accumulated in my ventricles. That's what Anis said lah, what the hell is a ventricle she didn't bother to tell me, she just told me to google it. Hmphhh. But basically, Anis said that my brain is bleeding. I thought it was cool, but Anis said it isn't. She's such a killjoy.

I was admitted into the NICU right after birth. From what I can see, this place is separated into three spaces. The far end filled with really sick babies who can't even breathe independently ergo they have this thingy stuck to their nose, they look like chicken with tubes. Hehehe. Then there's the intermediate segment where the babies aren't that sick. And finally, this medium sized stretch at the front where stable babies sleep. Which is also where I met Anis for the first time.

She was already handling two babies at the time but she gladly took me in as her anak tiri. She's sort of a baby-hater but she said since I behaved, she kinda likes me. Oh yeah, about my picture up there. I was really sick and all so Anis couldn't get a cuter shot of me. -__- nevermind, I know Anis didn't purposely try to sabotage me with that hideous picture. I just want everyone to know, I was adorable in my first few hours of life. Before I had those neonatal seizures and dehydration problems.

I also have these sudden screams like I was in unbearable pain. It scared my 'stepmom' Anis a little but she knows I wasn't making it up, unlike her I'm not a dramaqueen. Hi hi hi.

I sympathize Anis though, she told me that during this whole week of working in the NICU, she's oncall for 24 hours a day for everyday since last Saturday. That means she practically couldn't leave NICU at all. But she also bragged about how she lives right across the street so I wasn't surprised when she went missing for around an hour twice a day, and then reappears with fresh clothes. Balik shower lah tu.

She said this one time, she sneaked off for like a little over 2 hours and she felt like a badass. What? That also want to feel badass? So sad la this girl's life. Right people? Hahaha Anis you're my stepmom, don't marah me la.

There's no specific room for students on duty like her, so I've seen her sleep everywhere. Sometimes on the cough, then at this corner, then at this chair in the pantry then the changing room's sofa. So kesian to my stepmom.

On Monday and Wednesday, Anis was on lab duty. She had to walk to and fro from lab to NICU to lab again to send in blood samples and get blood test results, but she said she didn't mind, as long as she gets to escape from the NICU cause being trapped in here is making her go nuts. But yeah, she was a little whiny about the walking, she said its like she walked from her house to Padang Ipoh already. Ceh always dramatic this woman.

Hmm what else to tell? Oohhhhh, this is important, I swear. Ready? Well, I'm the verrrrry first baby she ever changed the diaper for. She even wiped my balls with wet tissue and all that, can you believe it? Yeah, this Anis, the baby-hater. I guess she's human after all. LOL.

Yeahhh, I guess that's it for now. That's the inside of Anis' life at the moment. I've to go, you see I lost the ability to breath on my own the other night, must be the bleeding brain and all so now I'm in that room with those critical babies surrounding me and only a few hours ago, the doctor declared me as brain-dead. So now they're waiting for my dad to decide when he wants to switch off this ventilator thing and let me go. Hmm. Anis was a little upset, I can feel it. She kept coming to my incubator and peering in with those sepet eyes of hers.

Anyways, tell her that its okay cause I'll be in heaven.

ICU for tiny people

My duty in Perinatology (another way of saying I'll be trapped in the NICU for a week, literally) started a few hours ago. At 7am to be exact. I've two babies to juggle. And an exam in 10 days, more or less. Pfffft.

Let's hope I survive this week without going bananas. Cheers.

School-talk, again

Its mmm...Saturday?

How's life people? I'm sure everyone is having a better time than me. Yes? I can't even feel the difference of the days in a week anymore, every day is a big blur of Monday to me. Tragedy, I know. T____T

I can't believe its already the end of my 8th week into Peads. Which is like..2months of torture already. Wah. And I'm still alive. Wahh!

This rotation, Peads, is a little different from my past ones. For example, my neurology rotation. You see, neurology itself means 'study of the nervous system' which is mostly about the brain and spine. So its just focusing on that. But peadiatric, defined as 'study of infant and children' has a wider scope. And do I sound so serious now? Haha.

So...what can go wrong in a kid? The whole body lah. Implying that, we have to learn neurology, respiratory, and alllll the other systems altogether again. Which is why it takes up to 10 weeks to complete the rotation. In my program that is. Not sure about medicine in other places though.

In peads, each week is divided into a certain system. For mine;
Week 1: Respiratory
Week 2: Infection
Week 3: Gastroenterohepaotogy
Week 4: Everyone thrown to different hospitals. (For me, Salebangang.)
Week 5: Every system in general and posted at Hospital LB
Week 6: Cardiology
Week 7: Mix (Neurology, Nefrology)
Week 8: Hematology

Week 10: Community Peadiatric

Not everyone will have the same sequence. Sarah started with Gastro and her last one is Cardiology. I think Sarah's cycle is better than mine.

For each subdivision, except for Week 4 and Week 5, we work at WS, my Uni's hospital. Which happens to be right across the street from my house. He he. Its really lame to live right in front of a hospital (yeah I'm talking about 50 meters away) but its really really convenient.

Almost all of my rotations during clinical years involves working at WS which was why I moved here. I watched Greys and when Christina moved right across the street from Seattle Grace Mercy West I thought eh loser gila live depan hospital then I thought eh...I LIVE DEPAN HOSPITAL. I DO. ME. -____-

So why is Sarah's rotation better than mine? Maybe next time. I'm sleepy. Goodnight!

Ouhhhh...I almost forgot. That Kejang Demam up there. I was leafing through my protocol book - supposedly a book with a list of all the main diseases I should master - and I came across Kejang Demam. So I BBM-ed Myra:

Wei penyakit Kejang Demam? Kau pernah dengar tak? Apa eh in English, Epileptic Fever ke? Eee macam tak wujud je penyakit ni. Sukahati je orang Indonesia ni cipta disease.

And Myra replied:

So I googled it....WUJUD WEI. Its actually called Febrile Convulsion. HAHAH. Tulah siapa suruh belajar theory for 3 years in English and then clinicals tiba-tiba in Indonesian. Kan dah terfitnah masyarakat medical tempatan. Ish ish. Sorry, masyarakat tempatan.

Why does the title sound like a tajuk karangan sekolah rendah? Tsk. OK moving on.

AJ: These past few months, every time he calls me, he'll end it with "We all love you." and we're not the type to express our loves so its really awkward the first time. I'd say "I love you all too." but in my heart I went "Why is he telling me this? Am I dying or something?" -__- But of course, I love AJ.

Mom: If I call her, she has nothing to say. If I text her, she's got a lot of gossips. Once I was really mad at this girl then I texted mom "Mak, this girl is so jahat I wanna kill her" and she replied "Be patient, I don't want you to end up in Endon prison for murder." She sukahati nak spell Indon like that. Haha and this other time I told mum how I hardly have any spoon in my room cause I'm too lazy to go buy then when I came home for sem break, she gave me this pile of recently bought fork and spoon and said "Nah, mak beli for you. Go bawak balik Makassar." Hahahaha my mom is so awesome.

Zarif: Whenever there's a slight dispute with AJ or if there's girl trouble or he needs advice or motivation, he always comes to me. :") And all I want is to be a better 'bro' for him. Which was why I got into a fight with his ex-girlfriend and scolded her for wanting a breakup hahahaha I'm protective like that. But I've apologized and me and her are good now. Teehee mintak maaf saya emosi.

Afif: When we were young, I had the most fights with this fella. I don't know how many times I said to myself "I am never ever ever ever gonna speak to Afif again!!! Urgh!!!" But now there's nothing I wouldn't do for my little fragile brother. Its true, water slice-slice never break or orang Melayu would say H20 dicincang takkan putus. Ok now I think I should tell him that cool people don't go liking their own status on Fb.

Serena: Whenever we go to a bookstore she'd take a few comics and trap me with "Kakak tolong bayar, nanti orang ganti balik duit kakak" -___- Of course I said "Takpe, takyah ganti." Eventhough she always do that to me, I'm still so proud of my little sister. She got 5A's in her UPSR and eventhough she hasn't started high school, she spent the holidays going for tuitions for subjects in Form 1. She's the most hardworking sister I know. Cause I've got only one sister. Hehe. She's ten years younger but she's the one who "This baju orang dah tak muat, you can have it if kakak nak." -___- And there's this one time I was being degil with mom and she wrote me a letter saying "Akak janganla melawan ibu bapa" -_____- ok ok enough with the story about my sister.

So, yeah, I'm feeling homesick. Bye.

I'm from Perak. You?

Perak is an amazing place. Haha okay maybe I'm a little bias. I was born in Johor but I've been living in Perak my whole life. Its my hometown. Its where me and my family lives, its where my grandparent lives. Each Raya we celebrate it in Perak cause well, mom and AJ are both Perakians. Perakians, sukahati je cipta word.

So when people ask me, where are you from? My answer could only be Perak. Saya dari Perak. Perak Perak Perak Perak Peraaaaaak.

I guess a whole lifetime of acknowledging the fact that I'm from Perak has made me feel familiar with the phrase. With the word. With the name Perak. The thing is, when you don't have a place called Perak in your country, it'll sound like a joke (?).

People around here, especially doctors who have been outside of Makassar, and assume that their Geography is the bomb, would often ask me "Malaysian? Malaysia di mana?" And whenever I answer "Perak." I WILL ALWAYS GET "PERAK? KENAPA TIDAK EMAS? HAHAHAHA"
